The Quiet Magic of Eloping
There’s something so tender and timeless about an elopement. It’s often overlooked in the world of grand weddings and reception halls, but for me, these small, intentional celebrations speak straight to the heart. It’s just the two of you (and maybe the kiddos), wrapped in this delicate, quiet moment that you’ll remember for a lifetime. No noise, no pressure. Just love.
Earlier this year, I had the honor of photographing an elopement that I’ll never forget. A sweet couple I’d worked with before reached out and asked me to be there as they said their “I dos.” It wasn’t their first time to be in front of my lens – a few years back, I had photographed their family on vacation. Their daughters were younger then, dresses swirling in the late afternoon breeze.
This time, they came back to me with a new chapter in mind. And I was so honored to walk back into their story.

The Return to “Top of the World”
If you’re familiar with Laguna Beach, you may know “Top of the World.” It’s more than a stunning overlook. It’s peaceful, wild, full of sunshine. Trails twist through wildflowers, and on clear days the sky is endless. That’s where Michael proposed to Morgan on the 4th of July. So, it’s no surprise that they chose the very same spot for their elopement.
They wanted their love story to come full circle – and I still get goosebumps thinking about it.
We started early in the morning. The light was bright and golden, the kind that dances on skin and makes everything in the frame feel alive. Their three daughters wore these impossibly sweet, fluffy soft pink dresses – little princesses, excitedly giggling and twirling in the sun.
Morgan had that same look in her eyes as she had years ago when I photographed her for the first time. But now, there was something deeper. A softness, a real knowing. The love they shared didn’t feel “posed” or perfect – it was honest and meaningful, and you could feel it in every glance and laugh.

Why Elopements Feel So Personal
When I photograph an elopement like this one, I’m reminded why I do what I do.
1. Less Noise, More Emotion
Without the pressure of schedules and guests, the couple gets to just be. They soak in the moment. There’s time to breathe, to laugh, to cry. It’s unfiltered connection, and it shows in the photos.
- No timelines pulling you away.
- No performance, just presence.
- Space to honor the moment with your whole heart.
2. Memories Over Production
You don’t need a big audience to have a big love. And you certainly don’t need a huge venue to create meaningful photos.
Michael and Morgan stood hand in hand on a mountaintop where their story once began. Their kids watched with joy. With every photo I took, I was capturing a legacy. A growing family that keeps choosing love, over and over again.

3. The Familiar Faces Behind the Camera
There’s something really meaningful when returning clients ask me to document their next chapter. It’s not just about creating another album. It’s continuing a story we’ve already begun together.
The trust is there. They know I’ll gently guide them through the experience. And I know them well enough to see the more delicate, powerful parts of their connection.
A Celebration I’ll Cherish for Years
Every Fourth of July, I’ll think of this family.
Of pink tulle dresses and the way morning light wrapped around them.
Of how Morgan looked at Michael like it was always meant to be this way.
Of how their daughters squealed with excitement watching their parents finally tie the knot.
It wasn’t a big event. But it was a big memory. And honestly, that’s what matters most.
